We do not have the scale and scope of Pearson or Random House, although our people have worked for all three.

So we don't publish books that will be piled high in Borders or Smiths, although there is no harm in hoping.

Our books are high quality, with a sharp focus. Their appeal is to significant minorities, including those interested in the environment, local and international history and politics, and people.

Books like The Land Downunder, by Ted Egan, whose famous folksongs tell the story of the colourful characters that built modern Australia. The book comes with a double CD of his best songs. Or Ray Armstrong's Time to Stare, the result of a 25-year watch on wildlife in a small but special corner of Britain. The book is worth buying for the photographs alone.

Or Raj, Secrets,Revolution, by Mihir Bose, which tells the astonishing story of how an Indian revolutionary persuaded Hitler and the Axis powers to try and free India from British rule.
